Aidan Friel runs the trendy new eaterie in Kerrykeel – the Narrow Quarter. The popular cafe – run with business partner John McDaid – has been enjoying a good summer; one of a number of new businesses to pop up in the village over the past year or so. Here’s Aidan’s My DonegalWhere is your favourite place in Donegal and why?Anywhere in the Fanad peninsula, it’s beautiful. Where in Donegal do you call home?KerrykeelWhat do you think is Donegal’s best tourist attraction?Fanad light house without a doubt. I never get tired of it. Rain hail or shine! Fanad Lighthouse is always a must see when I have friends visiting the county. Summers or winters?Summers. Is there anywhere more beautiful than Donegal (when the sun shines)Ideal day out in Donegal?A trip to Dunfanaghey, A walk on marble hill, coffee from the shack followed by a pint in Patsy Dan’s.Favourite Donegal product? Our tweed products are amazing. McNutts in Downings or Orwell & Browne. (check them both out on Instagram. Stunning products that make great gifts.)Who is Donegal’s best ambassador and why?She might not be known world wide just yet but I really think Erin McGinty is doing a wonderful job promoting Donegal. She has a strong online presence with her Instagram account @coolestplaceontheplanet. She is really showing off the county in all its glory. Her clever posts and busy lifestyle are catching the attention of thousands of online users both from inside the county and further afield.Who is Donegal’s most successful business person? This is a difficult one …. Exactly how are we measuring success?Favourite Donegal sports person?Barry McNamee who hails from ‘the wee toon’ Ramelton, #25 Derry City MidfielderFavourite Donegal restaurant? The Lemon Tree Letterkenny. If you haven’t been you don’t know what your missing.Change one thing about Donegal what would it be?I’d like to see a bigger push for real environmental changes and sustainability.Favourite Donegal expression or saying?“I’m foundered” I spent my whole life thinking that this was a perfectly normal everyday expression. Until I went to Carlow to study. Where I quickly realised it must be just a Donegal thing.Biggest challenge facing Donegal people of today? One of the biggest challenges and perhaps one of the most overlooked facing the people of Donegal is mental health. Many people struggle at some point with their mental health and sadly it seems more common that young people appear to be affected. For the younger generation, social media has transformed their daily lives. However, Online, we are constantly being bombarded with other people’s lives and their perceived success. It can be very easy to begin to question your own circumstances and question your individual successes in life. Also, I feel like work pressures in Donegal has increased, with an increase in corporate employment in the county. I also think the elderly are suffering from mental health challenges such as isolation and loneliness. We don’t visit our neighbours like we used to and this has created a real detachment in the community.Favourite Donegal food?Where do I even start with this one. Honestly, I can’t just choose one. Donegal has some of the finest produce around. The Haven Smokehouse has the best smoked salmon out there without a doubt. Hugh Wilhare and his team from Mulroy Bay Mussels grow such an excellent product. We have some of the best seafood in the country coming in fresh from Killybegs. Ballyholey Farm Shop produce fresh and tasty veg and our local butchers all around the county including Kerr’s butchers in Kerrykeel. If there’s one thing for certain we are spoilt for choice when it comes to good fresh produce. Is there anything that really annoys you about Donegal or its people? Not a thing. After living away for a while I’m just so grateful that I am able to live and work in Donegal.Favourite local bandIn Their Thousands. If you had a million euro in Donegal to improve something what would it be?I’d love to see rural transport links further improved. But I’m afraid sometimes in Ireland, a million euro wouldn’t even cover the cost a feasibility study costs.Daniel O Donell or Packie Bonner?“Wee” Daniel, my grandmother wouldn’t allow any other answer to this one.Is there anything about Donegal that you are very proud of?Yes, I am exceptionally proud of the local people of Kerrykeel and surrounding areas. Whether they realise it or not without them our business, The Narrow Quarter wouldn’t be a success. The local support we have received since we opened in April 2018 has been over whelming. To think in such a small village it would be possible to employ so many people and remain open all year round, It’s amazing and humbling to say the least. My Donegal – with restaurateur Aidan Friel was last modified: August 1st, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Aidan FrielCarrigartdonegalMY DONEGALThe Narrow Quarter
This established arrived in fantastic time it was very well packaged and it arrived in a beautiful pink organza bag it is really nicely built and is extremely sparkly it does suit my daughter properly with home to improve with her and it does glance seriously adorable on and the matching clip sets it off nicely and my daughter loves it as it goes effectively with all her outfits and she appears to be like even more like a princess. This set is very awesome and the element in it is outstanding i do like it a ton and think it would be best for any kinds minimal princess. It does have a charming rose gold colour to it i need to say that this set is a right metal established not plastic as some sets for children are. It is absolutely value its revenue and will give you lots of utilization for your funds. I did get it at a lowered rate in exchange for my viewpoint and i do like it and would suggest it as it is a very charming minimal set and my daughter chloe loves it. This headband and clip set is absolutely adorable. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the headband it is a sturdy one and the little crown on top is really pretty. It comes in a cute mesh bag as well and i’ve put it back in there after wearing it myself for an afternoon. Yes it fits my adult head aswel as my 1 year olds (neither of us have abnormally large/small heads) i have a big afro and i put it on and seperate the hair in front of it to reveal the cute crown, the headband part was hidden in my hair so it looked like a little crown just resting on the top of my head lol. I haven’t used the clip on my daughter yet because i’m not sure how id pit it on her hair as the little material part sticks out of the end and shes not a big clip wearer just usually a colourful bow attached to her braids. I’d definitely recommend this based on the quality and how lovely it looks. I was sent this item at a discount or for free in exchange for my honest non biased review and i have done so :). Charming item, great high quality. Here are the specifications for the kimmyku 2 Pcs Fancy Fairy Glitter Sequin Fflower Princess crown Flower Girl Birthday Costume Rhinestone Crystal Gel Tiaras Crowns Headpiece Headbands For babies Toddlers Kids Childs Childrens Girls:KimmyKu 2 Pcs Fancy Fairy Gold Glitter Sequin Flower Princess crown Flower Girl Birthday Costume Rhinestone Crystal Gel Tiaras tiarra Crowns Headpiece Headbands For babies Toddlers Kids Childs Childrens GirlsMaterial：alloy with carystal beads on shine and sparkly，size fits girl age 4-13QTY:1pcs gold crown tiara +1 pcs champagne gold Flower Sequin HeadbandsThe elegant gold colour easy to match any of your little girls outfits for any dress-up accasionThis is also could be a great birthday party school giftfor nieces，granddaughter friends and so on Posted on December 17, 2018Author Nathalie DuboisCategories HeadbandsTags kimmyku Reviews from purchasers :This set arrived in good time it was well packaged and it came in SummaryReviewer Nathalie DuboisReview Date2018-12-17 09:41:23Reviewed Item KimmyKu 2 Pcs Fancy Fairy Gold Glitter Sequin Fflower Princess crown Flower Girl Birthday Costume Rhinestone Crystal Gel Tiaras Crowns Headpiece Headbands For babies Toddlers Kids Childs Childrens GirlsRating 5.0 / 5 stars, based on 7 reviews
Google is bringing Web apps one step closer to having full desktop functionality. Today, it announced new functionality that allows apps from the Chrome Web Store to run in the background, even when all Chrome windows have been closed but the user hasn’t actually exited the browser. Why would you want to do this? A couple of reasons. There’s an example app available here (you’ll need Chrome 10).To close the background apps, users only have to exit Chrome. Users will also be able to check which background apps and extensions are running through the Chrome icon in the system tray in Windows and Linux or the dock on OSX.To address security concerns, Google has made the functionality available only to Chrome Web Store apps and extensions. Regular websites won’t be able to access this functionality. Developers will also have to declare the background capability in their apps.At the moment this seems only minimally useful, but it does give more purpose to the creation of Chrome Web Store apps, which have been criticized as over-glorified bookmarks. OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says it is “insulting” that President Donald Trump says Canada’s steel industry poses a national security risk to the United States.Speaking on NBC’s Sunday morning news show Meet the Press, Trudeau said he wants to make sure Americans, and more specifically Trump supporters, hear the message that they are going to feel financial strain and pain from the steel tariffs Trump imposed on Canada last week.“The fact that the president has moved forward with these tariffs is not just going to hurt Canadian jobs, it’s going to hurt U.S. jobs as well and neither of those things is something Canada wants to see,” Trudeau said.Trump imposed 25 per cent import duties on steel and 10 per cent on aluminum in early March, citing national security concerns about the impact those imported products were having on the American domestic industries. He exempted Canada, Mexico and the European Union pending additional talks to ease U.S. concerns. On Thursday the White House said the exemptions were being lifted because no satisfactory arrangement had been reached. But, Trudeau said, the idea the Americans would even muse that its closest friend and ally could be a security threat is ridiculous.“The idea that Canadian steel that’s in military vehicles in the United States, that makes your fighter jets is somehow now a threat … the idea that we are somehow a national security threat to the United States is quite frankly insulting and unacceptable,” Trudeau said.In the reports from the U.S. Department of Commerce on the steel and aluminum national security investigations, the American concerns have little to do with fears that Canada or Canadian steel directly pose a threat. Instead, they argue, the increase in foreign imports has shut down U.S. steel and aluminum plants, leaving the U.S. industry at risk of becoming unsustainable. If the U.S. cannot produce enough steel or aluminum to meet basic national defence requirements, the reports suggest, it is a national security threat. The documents also discuss concerns about the impact on national security from economic threats and unemployment. They cite a 35 per cent drop in steel industry jobs in America over the last 20 years as foreign steel displaced U.S. production and a 58 per cent drop in aluminum production jobs between 2013 and 2016.Trudeau added that he does not know what Trump wants Canada to do in order to remove the tariffs, because the U.S. actually exports more steel to Canada than Canada sends to the U.S., and when it comes to oversupply from China, Canada is on the same page as Trump.Canada recently instigated an anti-dumping investigation on Chinese steel, and in March introduced greater powers for Canada customs agents to search for steel products attempting to dodge duties with various measures like incorrect labelling or slight modifications.Pushing back against the American tariffs, Canada laid out more than $16 billion in retaliatory tariffs, matching the steel and aluminum tariffs and adding in an array of consumer goods from toilet paper to orange juice to playing cards and ball point pens.Trudeau said the goods Canada picked are those that can be easily sourced from domestic or other international suppliers. However they also target exports from states of significant American political leaders, such as gherkins and yogurt from House Speaker Paul Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin, and bourbon from Senate Leader Mitch McConnell’s state of Kentucky. Both Ryan and McConnell were publicly critical of Trump’s tariffs in recent days. In addition to the costs to exporters of consumer goods like pickles and chocolate, the steel tariffs will hurt American automakers by pumping up the cost of steel. The European Union is looking at similar retaliation, going after whisky, jeans and iconic American Harley Davidson motorcycles. For his part Trump seems nonplussed by Trudeau’s tariffs.“When you’re almost 800 billion dollars a year down on Trade, you can’t lose a Trade War,” he tweeted Saturday. “The U.S. has been ripped off by other countries for years on Trade, time to get smart.”White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told Fox News Sunday that Trudeau was “overreacting” and that the White House is not yet satisfied that Canada has closed trade loopholes on steel and aluminum.European Union Trade Commissioner Cecelia Malmstrom said Trump’s steel tariffs have nothing to do with national security and called them “pure protectionism.”One Canadian insider said traditionally, Canada was too small for retaliatory trade action against the U.S. to have an impact, but Trump has gone after so many countries at once that the pushback globally is big enough to have an impact on the American economy.Next week’s G7 leaders’ summit, which had been expected to be a six-against-Trump event anyway, now has an even bigger storm cloud lingering over it.Trudeau said the main goal for the meeting was to discuss how trade can ensure inclusion and growth for everyone, but said all the G7 leaders are concerned with Trump’s idea that trade is a war that must have winners and losers. He said he will be having a “frank conversation” with the president about the situation.“We’re going to be polite but we’re not going to be pushed around,” he said.Trudeau will start the week off with a series of meetings that are likely to focus on the tariff issue. The Liberals have scheduled a cabinet meeting for Monday morning, after which the prime minister will meet with representatives of the Canadian Steel Producers Association.
Before Wednesday’s trade headlined by Paul Goldschmidt, the Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals were relatively even on paper. But today, the two clubs inhabit completely different neighborhoods.Arizona and St. Louis ended last year separated by 25 points in Elo rating, and the teams entered Wednesday just two games apart in FanGraphs’ projected standings for 2019. With the trade of the six-time All-Star, the clubs have seemingly chosen different paths. The Diamondbacks appear ready to join the Seattle Mariners as teams that contended in 2018, fell short and have elected to become less competitive to restore their depleted talent bases. The Cardinals add a star talent with the hope that they can close the gap in the National League Central and return the club to the postseason after a three-year absence. The Diamondbacks are in a division with the powerful Los Angeles Dodgers, who are loaded with cash and talent and are heavy favorites in the NL West. Arizona already lost one key free-agent pitcher in Patrick Corbin, who agreed Tuesday to a deal with the Washington Nationals, and free-agent center fielder A.J. Pollock also figures to land elsewhere. The club has also expressed interest in trading ace Zack Greinke, whose contract accounted for 25.8 percent of the club’s opening day payroll this past season — the second-highest share in the majors. It’s a reminder that such contracts can hamstring teams’ abilities to build complete, competitive rosters.Conversely, the Cardinals do not have a clear super team in their way in the NL Central. The Cubs might have limited ability to improve this offseason, but the FanGraphs’ forecast has the Brewers regressing in 2019. The Cardinals entered Wednesday projected for four fewer wins than the Cubs, three more wins than the Pirates and six more wins than the Brewers. After the trade, the FanGraphs projection had the Cardinals picking up three wins to be just one game behind the Cubs and nine games better than the Brewers. (The Diamondbacks fell from 82 to 80 wins.) The Cardinals have been stuck in the standings purgatory — winning 88, 83 and 86 games the past three years — where no club wants to reside, but they could break that streak this year. The Diamondbacks went for it last year on the heels of a 93-win season and in the final year of control over Corbin and Pollock. St. Louis is now in a similar situation, as contributors like Marcell Ozuna, Miles Mikolas and Michael Wacha are free agents after 2019. Goldschmidt is under control for just one season before entering free agency. For the Cardinals, this is a win-now move. And what St. Louis received in the deal is not only one of the game’s best hitters but also one of its most consistent. In wins above replacement,1Using FanGraphs’ metric. Goldschmidt finished the past three seasons at 5.1, 5.2 and 5.0. He’s been worth at least 4.3 WAR every season since his first full year in 2012, when he finished at 2.8. Goldschmidt’s career slash line is .297/.398/.532. His slash line this past season? .290/.389/.533. He’s played in at least 155 games in five of the past six years.Goldschmidt, 31, is still near his physical prime and offers consistent star power for a club sorely lacking it. St. Louis thought it was landing a star in Ozuna last winter, but he had a mildly disappointing season. Since 2016, the only Cardinals to deliver seasons of 4 WAR or better were Matt Carpenter (5.0) and Mikolas (4.3) this past season and Tommy Pham, who was traded to Tampa Bay last season, in 2017 (6.1). Goldschmidt’s 4.3 projected WAR is a big upgrade over the Cardinals’ weakest projected starting infielder, Jedd Gyorko (1.7 WAR) — who could be supplanted in the lineup by Carpenter moving from first to third. And Goldschmidt may not even be the Cards’ final step: Ownership hasn’t ruled out a pursuit of Bryce Harper. While there is not a young star in the trade package, Goldschmidt didn’t come cheap. Some executives liked the return for Arizona, which included young major leaguers in pitcher Luke Weaver and catcher Carson Kelly, infield prospect Andy Young and the Cardinals’ Compensation Round B selection in the 2019 draft. The deal gives the Diamondbacks youth and a number of controllable years. The Diamondbacks had the fifth-oldest groups of batters (at an average of 29.2 years old)2Weighted by games played. and pitchers (29.6) last year. According to FanGraphs, Arizona entered the offseason with the game’s 26th-ranked farm system. Teams prize young, cheap, controllable talent — and now more than ever before, they are willing to endure deep, painful rebuilds to accumulate high draft picks and signing bonus pool space. The Astros and Cubs created a model to get to super-team status that other teams are following. Those clubs took rebuilding to extreme degrees, stringing together multiple 95-plus-loss seasons, but those paths resulted in World Series titles. The Diamondbacks consider themselves to be retooling rather than entering a deep rebuild, though that might be an optimistic assessment: Arizona third baseman Jake Lamb, outfielder David Peralta and starting pitchers Robbie Ray and Taijuan Walker are all eligible to become free agents within the next two to three years.Kelly and Weaver immediately fill needs on the major league roster. They are not prospects that are years away from the majors, though they also lack star-level upside.3The Diamondbacks were in the market for a catcher after free agent Jeff Mathis signed with the Texas Rangers. “There are decisions that you want to do and there are decisions you feel like you have to do,” Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said of Wednesday’s trade.More than ever, teams seem comfortable entering retooling periods, but not every rebuild is a successful project. For the Cardinals, perhaps they’ll have to consider such a path down the road. As for 2019, they’re going for it.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville reckons that the club’s forwards should attempt to emulate the example set by Liverpool‘s attacking trioAnthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku started up front for United in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea.A brace from Martial had put United in the lead after going a goal down due to Antonio Audiger’s 21st-minute opener. However, Ross Barkley’s last-gasp equaliser denied United all three points at Stamford Bridge.Speaking afterwards, Neville called for more consistency from the United attacking trio.“They need more from the front three, there’s so much talent there,” Neville told Sky Sports.“If you think of Lukaku, [Alexis] Sanchez, Martial and Rashford, they need more from them. I want to see more runs past Lukaku.Report: Origi cause Klopp injury concerns George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Divock Origi injury in today’s game against Newcastle is a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.Perhaps with one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Italy…“I want the two wide players, whoever they are – you see what Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah do for Liverpool, how they make those narrow runs inside.“I’m not saying they have to play narrow but wherever you start, you’ve got to end up in goalscoring positions more often and you’ve got to show that little bit of quality and composure in the final third.“I thought in the first half, there was an absolute gulf in the quality of the wide players – between Eden Hazard and Willian and Rashford and Martial – their understanding of the position and their adapting of their position on the pitch when the team were in possession, there were no runs in behind with intent, there was a lack of quality on the ball.“But in the second half, Martial gives you a glimpse. He shows you what he can do and Rashford does that as well but they’ve got to perform consistently.”United are now 10th in the Premier League table with 14 points from nine games.Jose Mourinho’s side will next face Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday at Old Trafford.
